InspirED Visual Arts delivery is led by Somerset Art Works (SAW), the only countywide agency dedicated to developing visual arts and craft. SAW is committed to supporting the development of young people’s artistic talent, as well as building relationships between schools and the community.
SAW brings together an offer for InspirED schools which includes:
- Opportunities for collective participation
- Creative opportunities to support the curriculum
- Opportunities for personal progression routes
We have a variety of ongoing projects and a wealth of experienced participatory artists who work with us.
Do you have project ideas you would like help realising, or want to take part in SAW’s ongoing project programme?
Opportunities for InspirED Schools 2018
2018 – 100 Year Commemoration of the Women’s Suffrage Movement
In 2018 SAW will be celebrating 100 years of women’s suffrage with opportunities for schools to get involved in artist workshops and events. We have been commissioned by Artichoke to be part of the national Processions project and contribute to a mass participation artwork in London in June. View our Somerset Processions project blog https://somersetprocessions.wordpress.com/
Free Education Resources for years 4-8 to explore and learn about the history of Women’s Suffrage, democracy and gender equality will be available to down load from the Processions website from 16 April https://www.processions.co.uk/workshops/toolkits/
Activities for Years 4-8 encourage responses through discussion, movement, debate, music and visual art.
Also banner-making toolkits are available to create your own banners and pennants inspired by the Suffragettes, KS2 – Adult.
We want to encourage pupils/students to explore their own views and opinions on gender equality today, as well as gaining an understanding about the importance of democracy and using your vote. Only 57% of 18-19-year olds voted in the last election (source YouGov website) and we want this project to encourage young people to vote in the future and inspire them to have their voice heard.
